Communication is the key in workplace

 


All organizations depend on their communication for basic functions. Through communication, an organization can inform its audience about companies mission, vision, policies, and tasks and be responsible within the organization (Farmer, Slater, & Wright, 1998).

The word communication is coming from the Latin word communis which means to share (Ezezu , 2008)

Research has shown communication in the organization can build or destroy the organization .therefor good communication is very important to the success of the business. communication is the link between employers and employees the communication is carried out poorly it will be the main cause to conflict in the organization. Most of what people hear or comprehend is influenced by their experiences and backgrounds. Preconceptions about what others will say exist, and if those preconceptions do not correspond with the frame of reference of the speaker, adjustments are made until they do.(Baskin et al., 1997).

Managers have various types of communication tools which is well balanced and can boost communication. when new projects start employees form groups and teams within the organization. teams and groups resolve many problems with the groups. a good leader must support and empower and solve the problem  (Fletcher, 1999).

Puth (2002) in his studies he argued the most valuable resources in the organization are employees and performance in these entities can be improved by sharing information about policymaking. so its managers' responsibility is to encourage the flow of information to increase the organization's performance as well as the productivity level of employees.

Types of communication

1 . Verbal communication 

2 . Non-verbal communication

3 . Visual communication

4 . Written communication

Strategies to improve organizational communication  

Enhancing communication in the organization is not an easy task to do. sometimes companies consult external parties who have experience in this to do the training.

Here are some points will see how we can improve communication.

1 . Provide the right tools - The most important thing is you must provide them with the necessary tools to communicate. today people need to communicate in the office how do they communicate in their private life? things like instant messaging platforms which is very easy to reach people in the organization.

2 . Be open and transparent - Be honest with the employees this is one of the best tools for successful communication in the organization. Share the good and bad news of the organization with employees. unfortunately today leaders think they should not disclose the bad news about the organization to employees.            

3 . Listen to what employees say - Upward and downward communication is very much important in organizational communication. The employer needs to understand how the employee thinks and feels. That's why it is important to conduct surveys and seminars. always ask your employee what are the things they bothered with, and if are they getting any feedback for their queries.

4 . Facilitate frequent feedback -  Feedback is very important for employees research shows 65% of employees need feedback to make sense of their work.

5 . Diversify the communication - Most of the time communication is limited. Management has to increase the channels to communicate with employees using chat, and email. And what's up and whatever the channel available and use that.

6 . Organize team building activities -  When employees spent time outside the office with the other members its easy to understand them.
